First Filming Project

This was our first filming project as a group, we were given a list of shots that had to be included with descriptions of angles. We found doing this was fun and not too difficult and realised we work well as a group. The sequence included Samantha walking up a flight of stairs, then going towards a door, checking the time and walking through the door. Overall we found that we didn't come across any difficulties in filming however when it came to importing the file, due to dust within the camera or tape, some of the shots were distorted. This is visible when Samantha walks towards the door. This also led to us re-filming one of the shots (close up of time on phone) which we didn't film for long enough and so we feel that this is a weak point of our video as it jumps a little and isn't on screen for long enough; however we're really happy with the scene where Samantha opens the door and walks through it as we feel that the different angles run fluently.

We framed our shots properly according to the sheet we were given, we made sure to take note of how close or far away to be etc. We had to make 9 shots and we thought through the way we would edit them together, for example when Samantha checks her phone we decided to film this as one shot and split it so that we could add in the close up of the phone.
With the pace, we think that when Samantha walks up the stairs and then we cut to a close up of her foot, the close up pace does not exactly fit the pace from before, so now we know in future to think about pace when filming from different angles.

We're pleased with our first film project.

This was the first time we used a video camera to shoot different angles such as high, low and canted angles. We also filmed long and mid shots which is evident in this clip. In the lesson we learnt the basic skills we would need in able for us to make our horror film. We found out how to focus and change exposure aswell as loading the tape and battery onto the camera. We also learnt how to set the white balance which we will need to do each time we use the camera or change setting. By Samantha.

Our First Post

The members of our group are Sorraya Begdeli, Samantha Whawell and Francesca Shilton. Over the next couple of weeks we will be learning skills such as Camera Framing, Shot Types, Continuity, Storyboarding, Genre and Conventions. We must recreate 30/40 seconds of a previous students' horror film in our group, and we will be assessed on this. We have chosen to recreate a Psychological horror, and the 40 seconds we have chosen are set in the woods.
