15 Certificate - This means that nobody below the age of 15 may buy or go to watch a film that has been given this certificate. The film must not promote discrimination in language or behavior as well as promoting the use of drug use. Relating to horror, the film is allowed to include a menacing and threatening threat however not be overly sadistic or sexualised. Behavior that is included within the film can be shown as long as things such as suicide are not shown in full detail that somebody may be likely to follow, also weapons that are able to be accessed easily are not allowed to be highly glamourised. Use of strong language is permitted as long as it is not aggressively repeated. In relation to sexual content and nudity, in a 15 rated film it is allowed to be shown as long as, once again it is not shown completely in too much detail. Some brutal and horrific images will not be allowed to be shown in the film as in this age rated film you can not focus overly on the pain or injury of things that are happening.
18 Certificate - Is when nobody under the age of 18 may buy or go to the cinema to watch the film. The 18 rating lets things that are very graphic be shown such as highly dangerous and violent scenes as well as illegal actions such as illegal drug use that are such things that effect health matters. Another feature of an 18 certificate is that it may show more explicit images and breach ideas of the criminal law.
For the horror film we have given it the rating of a 15, this is because it is going to contain a threat that is slightly menacing however we are never going to highlight these points in detail. There will be no showing of weapons, however near the end of our film, we will show a cut on the arm which shows evidence that there may have been a weapon used to create this cut, however it is not something that we are going to focus on. Due to all of our conventions that we are including, we think that the certificate of 15 suits it the best.

Kane Anson Assessment of previous work 2
In the horror video ‘zombie’ it has successful strengths which are that as it is set in an open grave yard and church which everyone is familiar with, it allows us to connect better with the film and also feel a part of it. This is great because it make the audience want to carry on watching the video in fright. There are also some weakness’ involved in the video. For example at the start when the zombies are coming, the male victim for some reason chose’s to take a picture of a zombie were as in the real world or an original horror, the victim would carry on running. In total this film doe’s look like a real horror film for the simple fact that’s it has a suspect (monster/killer/zombie) and it has a victim. It also is like a real horror film because there are a wide range of shot used which makes us feel more involved in the film which makes us more scared. For example there is a mid-shot of the zombie with allows us to put our self in the victims shoes. These shots are good because it makes the film seem more realistic and proficient. Also the rule of 3 has been used impressively because as it automatically grabs our attention to the piece, such as when we see the zombies to when the victim get bit and we can see the blood. The used as been a good creator for creating fear. This is because its creepy and it constantly keeps us thinking that something is going to happen as the tempo increases which keeps us involved in the film.

In the horror video 'monster' the strengths are that from the start of video, it allows up to build up tension as we think something’s going to happen very soon which scares us but on the other hand there is a weakness. This because at 1minute and 44 seconds in the video we see blood on the wall before the victim has been stabbed and also that I don’t think that the blood on the wall flows in smoothly with the rest of the scenes. The video 'monster' does look like a horror film because it has everything in it what a normal horror film would have for example a victim, a scary character, a build-up of tension etc... In this video there are a range of shots used such as close up's when the butcher is setting the alarm and long shots when the guy across the road is waving by. There is also a good use of rule of thirds as the butcher is constantly in the centre which allows us to constantly focus on him. There is also a good use of mise en scene because everything we see on screen is the only things we need to see. Also through the video there has been no sound which means that less fear has been created.

Samantha Whawell Assessment of previous work 2.
In this short horror we see a group of three young girls who contact beyond the living. I think that this is a very successful horror as it includes all aspects of what a horror should. I feel that the sound in this video is a particualar strong point as the bells ringing at the beginning are very uncomforting and help set a tense atmosphere it also links to religion which i feel made this a strong aspect for the sequence as well as the use of silence. I also think that by chanting something that the audience do not understand makes it more attention grabbing as it intrigues you to know what is being said. Another aspect to the film that i feel is a strong point is the use of costume and make up. At the beggining we are introduced to 3 girls dressed in normal clothing, however when one of the girls is possessed she looks completetly different when she is in the white room. I think by using contact lenses and making her eyes darker it made them stand out and clear for the audience that her body had been taken over. However, i feel as though when the camera pans into her eyes it could have more of an impact when it cuts to the white room scene. It is obvious that this sequence is a horror film due to the use of lighting scu has the shadows of the feet when walking across the roof and when the girl walk past. I think that this is really effective as as well as adding mystery to the horror, it also makes it flow nicely. This genre of horror has cleverly been used and creates fear through the sence of sound and the shots used and the location as it is abandond. It has a wide range of shots such as close ups and establishing shots, these are used to show detail to things that are happening and make an unatural feeling forward for the audience and long shots to use to establish the different locations in which are used. I think that the camera shot where it is moving through the corridors is particularly good as it makes you feel as though you are the possession that is coming for the girls. Everything included within the scene of the horror is relevant to the genre such as the chanting around the candles, these are postioned so you focus on them.

Samantha Whawell Assessment of previous work.
In this short horror of ghost we see one main character who is the female and other various characters such as the boyfriend 'Jamie' and the ghost. The horror includes many strengths which make it a success horror. These include the use of natural elements that make it seem realistic and bulid a connection with the audience making them feel as though they could be in a simular situation. This makes the audience fear what could happen next. Also by shooting the film at an evening time i makes the atmoshpere more tense as you cant fully see everything that is happening making the use of shadows very effective for the ghost genre they have chosen. By choosing the victim as the female it makes it fit the sterotypical victim for a horror so it suits the plot of the horror. However some of the occurence within the horror are not fully developed to stand out it the film. This is such as somebody at the window near the beginning of the sequence which is barely visable and hard to notice. This is a weakness because even though it is a good idea that suits the genre it is hard to see and if thy were to film again i would make sure this was more obvious as i think it could be a high moment for the film and be a point at which people would be scared.
It obvious that this film is a horror film as the use of setting and lighting aswell as the plot used make this clear. The shots that are included in this sequence all flow and there are no point where the footage jumps as it has been edited and filmed well. They have used alot of various shot type which all tightly flow and seem to be very proffessional and natural. The sound used within the sequence help with the fear of the horror film as it is hightened at all the point which make you jump and where theere is some action. This helpsthe audience into feeling afraid of the threat. The female in the sequence is alone at a point in the film where she repeatedly shouts the name Jamie, inbetween her saying the name there is silence, this helps creating the feeling that she is alone as most victims in horrors are alon when the action takes place. At the beginning of the short sequence by the use of the rule of thrds, our eyes are drawn to a ripeed old lack book, by the use of making the black book such a significant object it helps the audience along with the story of the ghost be related to it. It also makes the audience wonder what is inside the the book, and how it is related.
