15 Certificate - This means that nobody below the age of 15 may buy or go to watch a film that has been given this certificate. The film must not promote discrimination in language or behavior as well as promoting the use of drug use. Relating to horror, the film is allowed to include a menacing and threatening threat however not be overly sadistic or sexualised. Behavior that is included within the film can be shown as long as things such as suicide are not shown in full detail that somebody may be likely to follow, also weapons that are able to be accessed easily are not allowed to be highly glamourised. Use of strong language is permitted as long as it is not aggressively repeated. In relation to sexual content and nudity, in a 15 rated film it is allowed to be shown as long as, once again it is not shown completely in too much detail. Some brutal and horrific images will not be allowed to be shown in the film as in this age rated film you can not focus overly on the pain or injury of things that are happening.

18 Certificate - Is when nobody under the age of 18 may buy or go to the cinema to watch the film. The 18 rating lets things that are very graphic be shown such as highly dangerous and violent scenes as well as illegal actions such as illegal drug use that are such things that effect health matters. Another feature of an 18 certificate is that it may show more explicit images and breach ideas of the criminal law.

For the horror film we have given it the rating of a 15, this is because it is going to contain a threat that is slightly menacing however we are never going to highlight these points in detail. There will be no showing of weapons, however near the end of our film, we will show a cut on the arm which shows evidence that there may have been a weapon used to create this cut, however it is not something that we are going to focus on. Due to all of our conventions that we are including, we think that the certificate of 15 suits it the best.
